Troubleshooting
What the Aegis loader's console messages mean and how to fix them: licence checks, unknown products, server limits, Java versions and more.
Read the launch summary
Every start ends with a summary of what loaded:
Launch results: 1 succeeded, 1 failed in 3.2 sThe next lines list each product that succeeded, with its version, and each one that failed, with the reason. Scroll up from the summary to the first red line. That line names the product and the reason.
Loader messages
These messages stop every product. On Paper and Velocity, logins stay closed until you fix the cause and restart.

This copy of Aegis has no license attached | The jar isn't a personal download. Download your own from Downloads. |
This copy of Aegis failed its license check | The jar was changed after download, or Aegis couldn't be reached while starting. Check the server's internet access, then download a fresh copy if it still fails. |
No products are enabled in config. | Add a product under products, or set product in aegis.yml. See Installation. |
Folia is not supported | Run the products on Paper instead. |

Reasons
The reason after Failed to start <product>: or Aegis could not start your products: tells you what went wrong.
| Reason | What to do |
|---|---|
your license does not include it | You don't own the product, one of its dependencies, or the release channel you chose. Check Licences, or switch to channel: stable. |
no matching release, check its release and channel | No release matches the release or channel you set. Try release: latest and channel: stable. |
no release for this server type | A product this one needs has no release that works with it. Use release: latest and channel: stable, and contact support if it persists. |
your license has reached its server limit, or Aegis is busy; try again in a minute | A licence or product IP limit is full. See Licences and servers. |
every installation slot on your license is in use | Your licence has 100 activated installations. Request a reset with /servers reset in the Scala Studios Discord. |
this copy of Aegis was replaced by a newer download, use the newest one you downloaded | You generated a newer loader. Replace Aegis.jar with your newest download. |
this server's activation is no longer valid | Delete installation. in the Aegis folder and restart. On Velocity the folder is plugins/aegis/; on standalone it's .aegis/. |
this copy of Aegis was downloaded for a different license than this server's activation | The installation. came from another licence. Delete it and restart. |
your license is revoked | Contact support. |
product needs Java 25 but this server runs Java 21 | Upgrade the server's Java to the version shown. |
needs the <plugin> plugin, add it to plugins/ and restart | Install the named plugin. Aegis doesn't download plugins that aren't Scala products. |
a dependency failed to start | Another product this one needs failed first. Fix that one. |
When required: false is set for a product, a failure only skips that product. The console adds , skipping it and the server opens without it.
Still stuck
Set debug: true in aegis.yml on standalone to print every download and extra startup detail. Then ask in the Scala Studios Discord at discord.gg/scalastudios with the lines from your console, from the Aegis banner to the launch summary.
