Bedwars maps
The markers a Bedwars map needs for each mode, how matches pick a map, and the /map commands for naming and tagging maps.
How maps are stored
Maps are kept in your network database, not in each server's world folder. Every lobby and game server sees the same maps. When a map changes, every server reloads it without a restart.
Each match gets a fresh copy of the map. Blocks placed or broken in one match never carry over to the next.
Markers a map needs
A map is a world plus a list of markers. Bedwars reads these markers:
| Marker | Id | What Bedwars does with it |
|---|---|---|
spawn | A team letter, a to h | Where that team spawns and respawns. |
spawn | spec | Where spectators and eliminated players go. Without it, a team spawn is used. |
bed | A team letter | That team's bed. The marker must sit on the bed block itself. |
gen | iron, gold, diamond or emerald | A shared generator of that resource. |
gen | A team letter | That team's island generator. It drops both iron and gold. |
shopkeeper | Any | An item shop villager. |
upgrader | Any | A team upgrades villager. |
chest | A team letter | Marks the chest within 2.5 blocks as that team's chest. |
zone | build | The only area where players may place blocks. |
zone | Any other id | An area where players may not place blocks. |
Team letters map to colors in this order:
| Letter | Team |
|---|---|
a | Red |
b | Blue |
c | Green |
d | Yellow |
e | Aqua |
f | White |
g | Pink |
h | Gray |
What each mode checks
Before a match starts, the game server checks the map against the mode:
- Solo and Doubles need a team spawn and a bed for each of the 8 teams,
atoh. - Trios and Quads need a team spawn and a bed for each of the first 4 teams,
atod. - Every mode needs at least one
genmarker.
A map built for 4 teams can only be used for Trios and Quads. A map with all 8 teams works for every mode.
If a map fails the check, the game server refuses the match and logs which markers are missing:
[bedwars] <map> is not set up for Solo: missing team spawns for E, F, G, H; missing bed markers for E, F, G, HA bed marker that is not on a bed block is skipped with a warning in the log, and that team plays without a bed.
How a match picks a map
Bedwars picks a random map from the maps that pass the check for the mode. It only looks at maps with no game groups, or maps tagged with the bedwars group. If you run other Scaffold games on the same network, tag your Bedwars maps so other games don't use them, and tag other games' maps so Bedwars doesn't:
/map groups <map> bedwarsRunning the same command again removes the tag.
Map commands
These commands need the scaffold.admin permission.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/map list | Lists every map with its display name, icon and groups. |
/map info <map> | Shows a map's display name, icon, template, groups and number of markers. |
/map displayname <map> <name> | Sets the name players see, for example on the scoreboard before a match. |
/map icon <map> <material> | Sets the map's menu icon, as a Minecraft material name. |
/map groups <map> | Shows the map's game groups. |
/map groups <map> <group> | Adds the group to the map, or removes it if the map already has it. |
