Setting up a Station hub

Install Station on a hub server, name the server group, set the spawn, join message, lobby switcher and walk-in water portals.

Before you start

Install Kernel, Stash, Bridge and Scaffold on the hub first, and check that Bridge is connected. See the overview for what each one is for, and Installation for the Aegis loader.

Add Station to the loader

Add Station under products in the loader's config and restart the server. Station creates its files in plugins/Station/.

plugins/Aegis/config.yml
products:
  Station:
    enabled: true
    release: latest
    channel: stable
    required: true

Put the hub in a lobby group

Scaffold only turns on lobby protection and the Station hotbar on servers whose group ends in lobby. The group is the first entry of group in Kernel's kernel.yml. If group is empty, Kernel uses the server id without its last -part, so lobby-1 is in the group lobby.

plugins/Kernel/kernel.yml
serverId: lobby-1
group: lobby

Tell Station which group your hubs are in

The lobby switcher lists every server in Station's lobby group. The default group is hub, so set it to the group from the last step. The display name is one word.

/station group lobby Main

The switcher then shows entries like "Main Lobby #1" and "Main Lobby #2".

Set the spawn

Stand where players should appear and run:

/station setspawn

This also sets the hub world. Players join at this spot, /spawn teleports here, and players who fall into the void are sent back here. Until you set it, Station uses the spawn point of the world named world, or of the first world if there is none by that name.

Build the game selector

Run /station editor and add an entry for each game. See Game selector.

Editing the hub map

Lobby protection stops everyone from breaking or placing blocks, including operators. Run /station build to turn build mode on for yourself, and run it again to turn it off. Build mode also ends when you leave the server.

Join message

Station sends the join message to each player as they join. Add one line at a time:

/station motd add <primary>Welcome to the network!
/station motd add &7Players in Bedwars: &f<group_bedwars>

Lines accept & colour codes and MiniMessage tags. The placeholders from the game selector work here too. Run /station motd clear to remove every line.

Lobby switcher

Players open the lobby switcher with the Switch Lobby hotbar item or /switchlobby. It lists every server in the lobby group, sorted by server id, with its player count. Clicking an entry sends the player there, unless:

  • it's the server they're on
  • the server isn't online, which the menu shows as whitelisted
  • the server is full

Portals

A portal is a box around you that sends players to a server group. Only water blocks inside the box trigger it, so fill the portal frame with water.

Stand in the middle of the portal

The box reaches the radius you give in every direction from where you stand.

Create the portal

The radius is 1 to 32 blocks. This creates a portal named bedwars-portal that sends players to the bedwars group:

/station portal add bedwars-portal bedwars 3

When a player walks into the water, they get a short nausea effect and a portal sound. After a delay they're sent to the online server in the group with the fewest players. If no server is available, they get a message instead.

Portals only work in the hub world, the world you were in when you ran /station setspawn. The delay and the cooldown between uses come from Scaffold's settings.yml:

KeyDefaultMeaning
lobby.portalDelayTicks40Ticks between entering the portal and being sent (20 ticks = 1 second).
lobby.portalCooldownMillis5000Milliseconds before the same player can use a portal again.

List portals with /station portal list and delete one with /station portal remove <id>.

Flight

Players with the station.flight permission can fly on the hub. Station checks it when they join.

Reloading

Changes made in game reach every hub on their own. If a hub looks out of date, run /station reload. It reloads the shared settings on this hub and tells the other hubs to reload too.
