Friends and messages

How Toolkit's friends, best friends, follows, profiles and private messages work across every Paper server on a Bridge network.

Friends

Friends work across the whole network. A friend request reaches the other player on whatever server they are on, with a clickable Accept in chat.

CommandWhat it does
/friend <player>Sends a friend request. Same as /friend add <player>.
/friend accept <player>Accepts a request from that player.
/friend remove <player>Removes a friend.
/friend list [page] or /fl [page]Lists your friends in chat, online friends first.

The friends menu opens from your profile. It has four tabs: Friends, Requests, Following and Followers.

  • Friends shows each friend's head and, while they are online, the server they are on. Left-click a friend to pin them as a best friend; best friends sit at the top of the list. Right-click to remove them.
  • Requests shows incoming and outgoing requests. Left-click an incoming request to accept it and right-click to decline. Right-click an outgoing request to cancel it.
  • A button at the bottom asks for a name in chat and sends that player a request.

Who can send you requests

Players control requests from Player settings, under Privacy and then Friend Requests:

  • Requests set to Nobody blocks every new request. The sender is told you aren't accepting them.
  • The group switches (Friends, Following, Followers, Famous, Noobs and Everyone Else) choose whose requests you are told about in chat. A request from someone you've switched off still shows in your Requests tab.
  • A status of Do Not Disturb stops every friend request message in chat.

Famous means a player whose rank weight is 999 or more. Noobs are players who first joined in the last 7 days.

Follows

Following is one-way and needs no approval.

CommandWhat it does
/follow <player>Follows a player. They get a message saying you followed them.
/unfollow <player>Stops following a player.
/following [player]Opens a menu of who you, or another player, follow.
/followers [player]Opens a menu of who follows you, or another player.

Follows feed the Following and Followers groups in the privacy settings, so players can, for example, let only their followers see them on the tab list.

Profiles

/profile opens your own profile. It shows your rank, the server you are on, how many times you've joined, your first join date and your previous names. Its buttons open your friends, friend requests, following, followers, best friends, chat tags and settings.

/profile <player> opens another player's profile with their rank, whether they are online and on which server, when they were last seen, their first join date and previous names. From there you can send them a friend request, follow them or start a private message.

The number of previous names shown is social.nameHistory in settings.yml, 3 by default. A disguised player's profile shows their disguise rank.

Private messages

/msg <player> <message> sends a private message to a player on any server. /reply <message> answers the last player you messaged or who messaged you.

CommandAliases
/msg/m, /pm, /w, /tell, /whisper, /message
/reply/r, /respond

A message is not sent when:

  • the sender is muted;
  • the message is caught by Bridge's chat filter, which may also punish the sender;
  • the receiver is offline;
  • the receiver has Direct Messages set to Disabled, or to Friends Only and the sender isn't their friend.

Staff with bridge.message.bypass can message players who have Direct Messages turned off.

/reply works for 300 seconds after the last message in a conversation. Change that with social.replyExpiry in settings.yml. Receivers hear a sound unless they turned Message Sounds off; the sound is social.messageSound.

Toolkit also hides the vanilla join and quit messages on every server it runs on.
