Disguises

Let players and staff disguise with Bridge: random or chosen names, a rank and a skin, plus staff tools to look up real names.

How disguises work

/disguise (also /dis or /nick) hides who you are. You get a new name, a rank to show, and a skin. The disguise is saved, so it follows you to every server and stays when you rejoin, until you run /undisguise.

If a real player with your disguised name joins the network, your disguise is removed and you get a message.

Picking a disguise

What you can choose depends on your permissions:

PermissionWhat it adds
bridge.disguiseUse /disguise. Without the nodes below you get a random name, the network's default rank and a random skin.
bridge.disguise.nameChoose the name with /disguise <name>.
bridge.disguise.existingChoose a name that belongs to a real Minecraft account.
bridge.disguise.rankChoose the rank to show.
bridge.disguise.skinChoose the skin.

With rank or skin rights, /disguise opens a dialog on 1.21.6+ clients (unless the player set their interface style to menus in Toolkit) and a chest menu on older clients.

Names

A name must be 3 to 16 letters, digits or underscores. Bridge refuses names that:

  • are online on your server or already used as a disguise,
  • belong to a player who has joined your network,
  • belong to a real Minecraft account, unless you have bridge.disguise.existing.

Bridge tries up to eight random names until one passes these checks.

Ranks

You can pick any visible rank at or below your own weight. bridge.disguise.all unlocks every visible rank, and bridge.disguise.<rank> unlocks one rank by name, like bridge.disguise.vip.

Skins

The skin menu offers your own skin, a random one, the skin of any account you type in chat, and a set of built-in skins. Staff can add more with /disguiseskins add.

Changing a disguise

Staff tools

These need bridge.disguise.staff.

Staff with bridge.disguise.staff can also disguise as a rank above their own with /disguiserank. /user disguise and /user undisguise also need bridge.command.user.
