Ranks and tags

Create and edit Bridge ranks: weight, colour, prefixes, inheritance, scoped permissions, player permissions and chat tags.

How ranks work

Ranks live in Catalyst, so every server sees the same ranks. Each rank has:

FieldWhat it does
NameThe id used in commands. 1 to 24 letters, digits, _ or -.
Display nameThe name shown to players. Falls back to the name.
ColourThe name colour. Accepts an & code, a hex value or a colour name.
PrefixShown before the name in chat, the tab list and nametags.
Legacy prefixShown instead of the prefix to clients older than 1.21.6. Leave it empty to use the normal prefix for everyone.
SuffixShown after the name in chat.
WeightDecides order and authority. Higher is more senior.
DefaultPlayers without any active grant get the default rank.
VisibleHidden ranks still give permissions but are never the rank a player shows.
PermissionsPermission nodes, grouped by scope.
InheritsOther ranks whose permissions this rank also gets.

A player shows the highest-weight visible rank among their active grants. If they have no active grant, they get the default rank. If several ranks are marked default, the one with the lowest weight is used.

Weight and authority

Weight decides who can act on whom:

  • You can only grant ranks with a lower weight than your own, and only to players ranked below you.
  • You can only punish players ranked below you.
  • /rank setweight only accepts a weight below your own.

The console has no limit.

Editing ranks

/rank editor opens a menu of every rank, highest weight first. Left-click a rank to edit it, right-click to delete it.

The same changes work as commands:

CommandWhat it does
/rank create <name>Creates a rank.
/rank delete <rank>Deletes a rank.
/rank setdisplayname <rank> <name>Sets the display name.
/rank setcolor <rank> <color>Sets the colour, like &c, #FF5555 or red.
/rank setprefix <rank> <prefix>Sets the prefix.
/rank setlegacyprefix <rank> <prefix>Sets the prefix for older clients.
/rank setsuffix <rank> <suffix>Sets the suffix.
/rank setweight <rank> <weight>Sets the weight.
/rank setdefault <rank>Marks the rank as default.
/rank setvisible <rank> <true|false>Shows or hides the rank.
/rank list [page]Lists every rank by weight.
/rank info <rank>Prints a rank's settings, inherited ranks and permission count.

All /rank commands need bridge.command.rank.

Permissions and scopes

Every rank node belongs to a scope:

  • global applies on every server. Nodes added without a scope go here.
  • A group name, like bedwars, applies only on servers in that group.
  • A server id, like lobby-1, applies only on that server.
/rank permission add Helper sentry.staff
/rank permission add Builder minecraft.command.gamemode build-1
/rank permission remove Builder minecraft.command.gamemode build-1
/rank permission list Builder

Start a node with - to take it away, for example -minecraft.command.gamemode. Ranks are applied from lowest to highest weight, so a higher rank's -node removes a node a lower rank gave.

Inheritance pulls in another rank's nodes first:

/rank inherit add Moderator Helper
/rank inherit remove Moderator Helper
/rank inherit list Moderator

A rank can't inherit itself or a rank that already inherits it.

Player permissions

You can also give one player nodes of their own. They apply on every server, after all rank nodes.

/user permission add Steve worldedit.wand
/user permission remove Steve worldedit.wand
/user permission list Steve

These need bridge.command.user. /grants <player> also shows a player's own nodes.

Tab list and nametags

Bridge puts each player's rank prefix and colour in the tab list and above their head.

  • The tab list shows players on this server and on other servers in the same group, sorted by rank weight. It holds 80 entries in total.
  • Rank prefixes can be turned off for the whole network in /networkmetadata.
  • With Toolkit, players can show their country on their nametag. It shows as a two-letter code.

Tags

Tags are chat badges shown before a player's name. Staff create them with /tag editor and give them to players; players pick one from /tags.

CommandPermissionWhat it does
/tagsnoneOpens your tag menu.
/tag set <tag>noneWears a tag you own.
/tag resetnoneRemoves your tag.
/tag list [page]bridge.command.tag.manageLists every tag.
/tag grant <player> <tag>bridge.command.tag.manageGives a player a tag.
/tag revoke <player> <tag>bridge.command.tag.manageTakes a tag away.
/tag editorbridge.command.tag.editorOpens the tag editor. Left-click edits, right-click deletes.
/tag preview <design>bridge.command.tag.editorPreviews a MiniMessage design.
/tag reloadbridge.command.tag.editorReloads tags from Catalyst.

Players with bridge.tags.all can wear every tag without owning it.
