Proxy and network

Bridge's proxy login checks, maintenance mode, MOTDs, staff notices, network settings, server travel commands and the audit log.

Joining the network

When a player connects to the proxy, Bridge checks in this order:

  1. Client version. If BRIDGE_ALLOWED_PROTOCOLS is set, other versions are turned away. The screen names the versions in BRIDGE_VERSION_LABEL and your domain.
  2. Maintenance. While it is on, only whitelisted players get in.
  3. The player's record. Catalyst turns away a player with an active ban or blacklist. Ban evasion is checked once they're in. See Punishments.

If Catalyst can't be reached, players are turned away unless BRIDGE_FAIL_OPEN is true. Each Paper server checks maintenance and the player's record again when they join it.

Permission checks on the proxy use the player's Bridge permissions, so you can grant proxy command nodes through ranks. Nodes scoped to a server apply when the scope is the proxy's BRIDGE_PROXY id.

Maintenance

CommandWhat it does
/maintenanceShows whether maintenance is on, the reason and how many players are whitelisted.
/maintenance onTurns maintenance on. Also /maintenance enable.
/maintenance offTurns maintenance off. Also /maintenance disable.
/maintenance toggleSwitches it.
/maintenance reason <reason>Sets the reason shown on the maintenance screen.
/maintenance whitelist add <player>Lets a player in during maintenance.
/maintenance whitelist remove <player>Removes them.
/maintenance whitelist listLists the whitelist.

These need bridge.command.maintenance. /manageproxy has the same switch and whitelist as buttons. Only the whitelist lets players through; rank and permission don't.

MOTD and server list

Set the MOTD in /networkmetadata or /manageproxy. It is two lines of MiniMessage.

  • Start a line with <center> to centre it, or set BRIDGE_MOTD_CENTERED=true to centre every line.
  • <primary> and <secondary> use the network colours.
  • The legacy MOTD is shown to clients older than 1.16. Empty uses the normal MOTD with simpler colours.
  • The maintenance MOTD replaces both while maintenance is on, and the version text in the server list changes to the server list label, Maintenance by default.
  • With no MOTD set, the proxy shows the network name and domain. That fallback is presence.fallbackMotd in the proxy's plugins/Bridge/messages.yml.

BRIDGE_PLAYER_CAP sets the maximum player count shown.

Staff notices

Players with bridge.staff see a line when another staff member joins the network, leaves it or switches server. Only staff on the same proxy see it. The lines are under staff in the proxy's messages.yml.

Network settings

/networkmetadata (also /netmeta) opens the network-wide settings. It needs bridge.command.networkmetadata.

SettingWhat it is used for
Server nameThe tab list header and the fallback MOTD.
Primary and secondary colour<primary> and <secondary> in messages, menus and MOTDs.
DomainThe appeal link on the ban screen, the fallback MOTD and the blocked-version screen.

Rank prefixesShows or hides rank prefixes in the tab list and on nametags.
Forbidden commandsCommands nobody can run on your Paper servers, except players with bridge.command.bypass.
MOTDThe server list MOTD.

The menu also has an Allowed When Banned list. This version of Bridge doesn't use it.

/manageproxy (also /proxy) opens maintenance, the whitelist, the ban, blacklist, ban evasion and maintenance screens, the MOTDs and the network settings. It needs bridge.command.manageproxy.
