Anticheat alerts

Sentry turns Polar anticheat detections, bans, kicks and ban queue entries into network-wide staff alerts and keeps per-player logs.

How it works

Sentry has no anticheat of its own. If the Polar anticheat runs on a Paper server, Sentry hooks into it and, for every Polar event below:

  • sends an alert to staff on every server running Sentry,
  • saves a log entry for the player, except for ban queue entries.
Polar eventAlert
A player fails a checkServer, player, check and violation level. Hover for the check type, details, client and ping.
A cloud detectionSame as a failed check.
Polar bans or kicks a playerServer, player and whether they were banned or kicked. Hover for the checks and reason.
A player enters Polar's ban queueServer and player. Hover for the check and how long until the ban.

Clicking any alert opens that player's logs.

Polar is a separate product and is not included with Bridge. Without it, Sentry logs a warning at startup and anticheat alerts stay off; everything else in Sentry works. If Polar loads after Sentry, Sentry keeps trying to hook into it for up to 15 minutes. /cerberus info shows whether it is hooked.

Who gets alerts

Staff need sentry.cerberus.alerts to receive alerts. Each staff member picks a mode, saved to their profile:

ModeShows
GlobalAlerts from every server. This is the default.
InstancedAlerts from your current server only.
DisabledNo alerts.

/alerts or /cerberus alerts cycles through the modes. Both need sentry.command.cerberus. The server console also gets alerts from its own server.

Commands

All of these need sentry.command.cerberus. /anticheat works as an alias of /cerberus.

CommandWhat it does
/cerberusOpens the overview: logs from the last 24 hours and 7 days, a tile per check type, your alert mode and a button to reload Polar's config.
/cerberus logs <player>Opens a player's logs grouped by check. Also /logs <player>.
/cerberus alertsCycles your alert mode. Also /alerts.
/cerberus infoShows whether Polar is hooked on this server, the Polar cloud status and your alert mode.
/cerberus clear <player>Deletes all of a player's logs.
/cerberus exempt <player>Exempts a player on this server from Polar checks until they relog.
/cerberus tolerance <player> <level>Sets a player's Polar movement tolerance until they relog. An unknown level lists the valid ones.
/cerberus reloadRe-reads Polar's polar.yml on this server.
/cerberus helpLists these commands.

exempt and tolerance only work on players on the same server as you.

Logs

Logs are stored in your MongoDB and shared by every server. Each entry keeps the check, violation level, details, client and server.

  • Logs are deleted after 30 days (cerberusLogRetention in sentry.yml).
  • The overview counts logs from the last 7 days.

Exempt server groups

Players who join a server in one of the exemptGroups in sentry.yml are exempted from Polar checks on that server. The default list holds stasis.

Kicks Sentry cancels

Sentry cancels Polar kicks whose reason mentions "pong response", "teleport format" or "teleport confirmation", and logs them to the console instead. Kicks started through Polar's API are not affected.
